“Suddenly, you’re scared and you don’t know why”
The Tiffany’s store in New York just opened a breakfast cafe and I have had Breakfast at Tiffany’s quotes in my head all week. “The mean reds are horrible, you’re afraid and you don’t know what you are afraid of”, Holly says when she explains why she goes to Tiffany’s. I absolutely love that movie! What helps you when you get the mean reds? Not the blues. The blues is when you are just sad. But the mean reds, according to Holly, is when you’re afraid and you don’t know why…
When I feel this way it is usually because I have so many fears and they are hard to untangle to find the origin. When you don’t know where the fears are from it is very hard not to get overwhelmed. Getting overwhelmed never helps and getting your mind off the situation is the best remedy. How do you get your mind off of your fears? I think that country song by Maren Morris, “I Could Use a Love Song”, illustrates something you can do when you get the “Reds”. She is singing about being afraid of love and what calms her down is a good long drive and a love song. Everyone’s “thing” is different. I have a friend who watches the children show, Curious George. I haven’t figured out what works for me every time. I have a few movies I like to watch that gets me out of that mood. I like Under the Tuscan Sun, Mama Mia, and My Week With Marylin. It is a very random list, but for some reason, those three, along with watching Break at Tiffany’s will get me out of the “Mean Reds”.
What do you do to get out of the Mean Reds?
