Don’t Fall On Your Goals

I was at a hockey game. The pre-season Hawks game was pretty full when I sat down with my fries. There were two fights that broke out during the game. One of those fights took place close to the goal. I imagined the Black Hawks player punching the Blue Jackets goalie and landing on the goalie net. Would he break it? Is that legal? Has that ever happened? I guess it wouldn’t matter because the puck would be long gone by now. This is how I entertain myself with sports.

Goals for the day can sometimes feel like we are caught up in a net. We know we should have goals and we go kicking and screaming. Here are a few of my goals this fall. Some feel a little out of reach for me.

1. Start producing a podcast or recording a podcast

2. Consistently VLOG again.

3. Pray and spend time reading and reflecting once a day.

4. Collaborate with one other blogger.

5. Pay off one credit card. (Wish me good luck)

6. Get to sleep earlier.

7. See improvement with my on air personality.

8. Eat healthier.

Goals help me focus. I have about ten to-do lists for each day and I still forget emails I have to write or that phone call I have to make. Another reason I have goals is because I can get discouraged really quickly. When I have goal I can look behind me and see amazing growth. There’s a reason athletic trainers have their trainees write a journal. It’s good to reflect on your progress

Another thing that has helped me this year so far is taking a break by walking. I have been walking a half an hour a day. This helps me clear my head without having to exert a lot of energy. I can walk that long even on days when I have had three hours of sleep.

Maybe goals are accomplished by a balance between taking breaks to rest and striving towards the goal with everything you have in you. And not so much a punch that lands you tangled in a net of unmet goals. It takes both that to-do list and that walk on your lunch break to achieve all that you need in a day. Don’t be afraid to rest as hard as you work.
