I try to avoid public transit as much as possible. That’s why I love my little Prius. But My friend Kieran and I got on the L and took a trip to the Lyric Opera. Ok, let me back up. We had to make a stop at the local Nordstrom for Kieran because she needed an outfit change. She lives in Roger’s Park and volunteers down town and she forgot a change of clothes. So this leads me to a very important question: WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO THE OPERA?
I love black. You can’t go wrong with a black dress. No matter what length. The dress I wore was a loose fitted midi dress and Kieran bought a mid- thigh black dress. You really can’t go wrong. We both wore laced flats. Her’s was a rose color which went with her leather, suede jacket. If you don’t want to wear all black wear a beautiful suede jacket. Wearing a gorgeous statement necklace will help.
Once we grabbed Kieran an outfit we headed to the Opera. We got the facts on how the Opera was built and how the scene props are stored. It is amazing how they fit all of the set props in the down town theatre. The theater was built in the 20s and the production has expanded. Something that has not changed are the wigs for the production. Each wig is made and created for the actor of each character. The wigs are also made out of real hair. The amount of hours it takes for each wig is up to 60 hours. That’s insane! The costume rooms are bigger than my closet and don’t even get me started with the shoe storage room. I love theater.
